Republicans constantly claim to have respect for the men and women who defend our country yet it was plain tonight that they don’t respect them at all. Our soldiers, gay or straight, deserve our praise and applause. Booing them is an insult to the flag, the Constitution, and every man and woman who bravely puts on the uniform of this country to take part in its defense. Gay and straight soldiers have died for this country and Republicans don’t give a damn how much blood a soldier has spilled if they are gay. They will always hate them. We have to ask ourselves if Republicans are worthy of commanding the military when they clearly have nothing but contempt for many of the soldiers. The answer is, they’re NOT.

GOP Audience Boos Gay Soldier, Santorum Promises To Reinstate DADT

[personal note: I am sure there are some good Republicans out there who wouldn’t disrespect soliders for any reason. I typically shy away from spreading blanket statements like this, but the fact that NONE of the other GOP presidential candidates even attempted to chastise those booing, or even attempted to treat the soldier’s question with respect, well…yeah. These are the people Republicans are going to be voting for and unless the people speak up and demand candidates who refuse to endorse this type of bigotry, the culture of the Republican party will continue to degrade further and further, I fear.]
